Job Description

Join our dedicated team at NHS Tayside as a Health & Social Care Porter with a vital community-based focus. This role is essential for ensuring the smooth and efficient transport of patients, equipment, samples, and documentation not just within our facilities, but crucially, between community settings, patients’ homes, and various healthcare sites across Dundee. You will play a pivotal role in supporting direct patient care by facilitating access to services and maintaining the operational flow of community health initiatives. We are looking for an empathetic, reliable, and physically capable individual committed to making a tangible difference in the lives of individuals within our local communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transporting patients, including those with mobility challenges, safely and respectfully between various community locations, including their homes, clinics, and hospitals.
  • Moving medical equipment, supplies, specimens, and confidential documentation securely and efficiently between different health and social care premises.
  • Assisting with the setup and relocation of equipment for community clinics or home visits.
  • Operating and maintaining appropriate vehicles for transport, ensuring they are clean and well-stocked.
  • Communicating effectively and compassionately with patients, their families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Adhering to all health, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining accurate records of movements and tasks completed.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate approach.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in community settings.
  • Good physical fitness and ability to undertake manual handling tasks safely.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
  • Basic IT literacy for record-keeping.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and patient dignity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Full clean UK driving license.
  • Experience in a care or customer service role.
  • Knowledge of the Dundee area and community healthcare facilities.
  • Basic first aid certification.
