Job Description

Specsavers in Derry/Londonderry is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Junior Optical Lab Technician to join our growing team. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for individuals with a keen eye for detail and a desire to learn technical skills. You will receive comprehensive, on-the-job training in all aspects of optical lens processing, from cutting and edging to quality control, ensuring you develop into a skilled technician. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior technicians in the cutting, edging, and mounting of spectacle lenses according to prescriptions.
  • Learn and operate specialist optical laboratory machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Perform quality control checks on finished lenses and frames to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organised laboratory workspace.
  • Manage and track lens inventory, reporting any discrepancies.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations within the lab environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and other departments.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance technical skills.
  • Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and report major problems to management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English, or a relevant technical subject.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing, production, or laboratory setting (even if not optical specific).
