Key Responsibilities
- Operate commercial motor vehicles safely and efficiently across various states, adhering to all traffic laws and company policies.
- Transport goods over long distances, ensuring on-time delivery while maintaining cargo integrity.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, reporting any defects or issues.
- Manage and maintain accurate electronic logs (ELDs) and trip sheets.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and other team members regarding routes, schedules, and potential delays.
- Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations, including DOT requirements.
- Ensure proper loading and unloading procedures are followed, securing freight appropriately.
- Maintain a clean and organized truck cab.
- Represent Knight-Swift Transportation with professionalism and excellent customer service.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Minimum 2 years of verifiable tractor-trailer driving experience
- Clean driving record (MVR) with no major preventable accidents or violations in the last 3 years
- Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and ELD compliance
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 75 pounds as required for freight handling
- Willingness to travel for extended periods across multiple states
Preferred Qualifications
- Hazmat endorsement
- Tanker endorsement
- Experience with various types of freight and trailers (e.g., dry van, reefer)
- Geographical familiarity with major U.S. freight lanes
