Job Description

Key Responsibilities
- Participate in on-the-job training and mentorship programs to develop expertise in environmental health inspection and enforcement.
- Assist senior inspectors in conducting routine inspections of various premises, including restaurants, daycares, public pools, and housing units, to ensure compliance with provincial and municipal health regulations.
- Learn to identify, investigate, and resolve environmental health hazards and complaints, such as food safety issues, pest infestations, and sanitation concerns.
- Support the preparation of inspection reports, enforcement notices, and official correspondence.
- Engage with business owners, property managers, and the public to provide education and guidance on environmental health best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Attend training sessions and workshops to stay current with legislative changes and industry standards.
- Assist in emergency response activities related to public health incidents as required.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent, with a strong interest in public health, science, or environmental studies.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with diverse populations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to learn and apply complex regulatory information.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- A valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License (or equivalent) and access to a reliable vehicle for business use.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Environmental Health, Public Health, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Previous volunteer or work experience in a public service, healthcare, or regulatory environment.
- Familiarity with municipal bylaws and provincial health legislation.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
