Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Policy Intern for a paid summer internship program in 2024. This is an unparalleled opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public policy analysis, advocacy, and community development within a leading non-profit organization. The Policy Intern will support our efforts to research, analyze, and communicate about critical issues affecting Pasco County, helping to shape our strategic initiatives and advocacy priorities. This role offers exposure to local government, community stakeholders, and the practical application of policy to improve real-world outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on local, state, and federal policies relevant to United Way's focus areas (education, income, health).
- Assist in drafting policy briefs, reports, presentations, and other communication materials for various audiences, including community partners and policymakers.
- Monitor legislative developments and policy trends impacting Pasco County and its residents.
- Support the planning and execution of advocacy events, community forums, and stakeholder engagement meetings.
- Collect, organize, and interpret data to support policy recommendations and impact measurement.
- Collaborate with internal teams on special projects related to community needs assessment and strategic planning.
- Attend meetings with local officials and community leaders, as appropriate, to represent United Way's policy interests.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy, Economics, Sociology, Social Work, or a related field.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated interest in public policy, community development, and social justice issues.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a volunteer, internship, or work capacity within a non-profit, government, or advocacy setting.
- Familiarity with the social and economic landscape of Pasco County, Florida.
- Experience with data analysis tools or statistical software.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
