Job Description

Join Kimley-Horn’s dynamic team as a Land Management Intern for an exciting Summer Field Rotation in New Port Richey, Florida. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity for students pursuing a degree in environmental science, ecology, conservation, or a related field to gain practical experience in land management. You will work alongside experienced professionals, contributing to projects focused on natural resource management, habitat restoration, and environmental compliance. This role emphasizes field work, data collection, and report preparation, providing invaluable exposure to the environmental consulting industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with field data collection, including vegetation surveys, soil sampling, and wildlife monitoring.
  • Operate and maintain field equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Contribute to the preparation of environmental reports, permit applications, and technical documents.
  • Conduct research on regulatory requirements and best management practices.
  • Participate in site visits to assess environmental conditions and project progress.
  • Utilize GIS tools for mapping, analysis, and data visualization.
  • Collaborate with project managers and senior staff on various land management initiatives.
  • Document findings accurately and maintain organized project records.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Environmental Science, Ecology, Conservation, or a related field.
  • Strong academic performance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Willingness and ability to perform fieldwork in varying weather conditions and terrain.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous coursework or experience in GIS (Geographic Information Systems).
  • Familiarity with Florida's native flora and fauna.
  • Prior field experience in environmental monitoring or land management.
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental regulations (e.g., Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act).
  • Certification in First Aid/CPR.
