Job Description
Coty Inc. is seeking a passionate and driven Junior Formulation Chemist to join our innovative Cosmetics & Skincare R&D team in Newport, RI. This is an exceptional entry-level opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional looking to kickstart their career in cosmetic formulation. You will receive comprehensive training and mentorship from experienced chemists, learning the principles of cosmetic chemistry, raw material science, and product development from concept to launch. Your focus will be on assisting in the formulation, testing, and optimization of cutting-edge cosmetic and skincare products.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior chemists in the preparation, formulation, and stability testing of new cosmetic and skincare products.
- Conduct laboratory experiments, including ingredient weighing, mixing, pH adjustments, and viscosity measurements.
- Perform routine analytical testing on raw materials and finished products to ensure quality and consistency.
- Document experimental procedures, observations, and results accurately and thoroughly in lab notebooks and electronic systems.
- Support the sourcing and evaluation of new raw materials and technologies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment in compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
- Participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and project discussions.
- Learn and apply Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety protocols.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related scientific field.
- Strong foundational knowledge of general chemistry principles.
- Basic laboratory skills and familiarity with standard lab equipment.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous internship or academic project experience in cosmetic, personal care, or pharmaceutical formulation.
- Familiarity with cosmetic raw materials and their functions.
- Understanding of stability testing protocols for consumer products.
- A genuine passion for the cosmetics and skincare industry and product innovation.
