Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Forensic Toxicologist (Chemist) with a strong focus on Adliye/Legal Support to join our dedicated team in Pasco, Washington. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for performing complex analytical procedures to detect and quantify drugs, poisons, and other toxic substances in biological samples related to forensic investigations. This position requires meticulous record-keeping, expert interpretation of results, and the ability to provide clear, concise, and defensible testimony in legal proceedings. The successful candidate will contribute to the integrity of our forensic findings and play a crucial part in supporting the legal and justice systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive toxicological analyses on biological specimens (e.g., blood, urine, tissue, hair) using various analytical techniques (e.g., GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, immunoassay).
- Develop, validate, and optimize analytical methods for the detection and quantification of novel and emerging substances.
- Interpret complex analytical data and results, preparing detailed and scientifically sound forensic reports.
- Maintain strict chain of custody for all samples and evidence in accordance with laboratory protocols and legal standards.
- Provide expert testimony in court, depositions, and other legal proceedings, effectively communicating scientific findings to a non-scientific audience.
- Collaborate with law enforcement, legal professionals, medical examiners, and other agencies involved in forensic investigations.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant quality control standards, accreditation requirements (e.g., ISO 17025, ASCLD/LAB), and safety regulations.
- Participate in proficiency testing programs and internal quality assurance activities.
Required Skills
- Expertise in forensic toxicology principles and practices.
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation (GC-MS, LC-MS/MS).
- Strong understanding of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and metabolism of drugs and toxins.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and expert testimony.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain chain of custody and handle forensic evidence with integrity.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities for complex analytical challenges.
- Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification by the American Board of Forensic Toxicology (ABFT).
- Experience in a high-volume forensic toxicology laboratory.
- Prior experience providing expert witness testimony in court.
- Knowledge of legal procedures and requirements related to forensic evidence.
- Master's or Ph.D. in Forensic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Toxicology, or a closely related scientific field.
