Job Description
We are seeking reliable and compassionate Hospital Porters to join our essential team in Woking. As a Hospital Porter, you will play a crucial role in the smooth running of our hospital, ensuring patients, equipment, and vital supplies are moved safely and efficiently. This is a dynamic role requiring excellent physical stamina, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment. Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport patients, including those with limited mobility, between wards, departments, and clinic areas using appropriate equipment.
- Move medical equipment, beds, furniture, and other items as required across the hospital site.
- Deliver laboratory specimens, blood products, and medical records to designated areas promptly and securely.
- Assist with the transfer of deceased patients to the mortuary, maintaining dignity and respect.
- Ensure timely collection and disposal of waste, including clinical waste, in accordance with hospital policies and health and safety guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and good working order of transport equipment, reporting any faults or damage.
- Provide a polite and helpful service to patients, visitors, and staff at all times.
- Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, particularly those relating to infection control, manual handling, and patient confidentiality.
- Respond to requests and emergencies promptly and efficiently, demonstrating flexibility in duties.
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a compassionate approach.
- Good level of physical fitness to handle manual handling tasks and prolonged periods of standing/walking.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual, and highly organised with a strong work ethic.
- Basic understanding of health and safety regulations.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and in potentially challenging situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a portering role, ideally within a hospital or healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of basic manual handling techniques.
- First aid certification.
- A clean UK driving license (though not essential for all portering duties, may be advantageous).
