Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated After-School Program Aide to join our team in Durham. In this vital role, you will be responsible for supervising children, assisting with homework, leading engaging activities, and ensuring a safe and positive experience for all participants. This is a part-time position, Monday through Friday, primarily in the afternoon and early evening. Key Responsibilities
- Supervise groups of children during after-school hours, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Assist children with homework assignments and provide academic support as needed.
- Lead and facilitate engaging recreational, educational, and creative activities appropriate for various age groups.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and positive program environment.
- Enforce program rules and behavior guidelines consistently and fairly, promoting positive social interactions.
- Communicate effectively with program coordinators, parents, and other staff members regarding child progress or concerns.
- Respond to emergencies and administer basic first aid if necessary, following established protocols.
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and program quality.
Required Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect positively with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to work effectively with children of various ages and backgrounds.
- Patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for youth development.
- Ability to maintain a safe and orderly environment while fostering a fun and engaging atmosphere.
- Basic understanding of child development principles.
- Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and collaborate effectively as part of a team.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in childcare, youth programs, summer camps, or an educational setting.
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework in education, child development, social work, or a related field.
- Knowledge of positive behavior management techniques and strategies.
- Ability to lead small group activities and facilitate games or crafts.
