Job Description
Are you an 18-year-old ready to kickstart your career in public service? The City of Overland Park is seeking an enthusiastic and organized Administrative Assistant to join our local government office. This entry-level position is perfect for recent high school graduates or those looking to gain valuable professional experience in a dynamic municipal environment. You’ll play a crucial role in supporting our team, learning the ins and outs of local government operations, and contributing to the efficient delivery of services to our community.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support to various departments and staff members.
- Answer and direct phone calls, taking messages as needed.
- Greet visitors and direct them to the appropriate personnel or department.
- Manage and organize physical and electronic files and documents.
- Assist with data entry, record keeping, and report generation.
- Schedule appointments and manage calendars for designated staff.
- Prepare and distribute correspondence, memos, and other communications.
- Process incoming and outgoing mail and packages.
- Maintain office supplies inventory and place orders when necessary.
- Perform general clerical duties, including photocopying, scanning, and faxing.
- Assist with special projects and events as assigned.
- Adhere to all city policies and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Age 18 at the time of employment.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
