Job Description
We are immediately seeking a highly motivated and skilled Food Chemist with a strong focus on Nutritional Analysis to join our state-of-the-art laboratory in Queens, NY. The successful candidate will be instrumental in performing a wide range of analytical tests on food and beverage products, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and contributing to the safety and quality of consumer goods. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical problem-solving skills, and a commitment to upholding the highest laboratory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex chemical analyses on food and beverage samples, primarily focusing on nutritional components such as vitamins, minerals, fats, proteins, carbohydrates, and moisture.
- Operate and maintain advanced analytical instrumentation, including but not limited to HPLC, GC, LC-MS/MS, ICP-MS, and automated wet chemistry systems.
- Develop, validate, and optimize analytical methods for nutritional profiling in various food matrices.
- Interpret and report analytical results accurately and efficiently, ensuring data integrity and adherence to quality control procedures.
- Troubleshoot analytical instrumentation and method performance issues.
- Adhere strictly to ISO 17025, GLP, and other relevant quality systems and safety protocols.
- Participate in laboratory audits and maintain comprehensive documentation of all analytical activities.
- Collaborate with other scientists and laboratory personnel to ensure efficient workflow and project completion.
- Stay current with industry trends, regulatory changes, and advancements in food chemistry and nutritional analysis techniques.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a food testing or analytical laboratory environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in nutritional analysis techniques and associated instrumentation (HPLC, GC, LC-MS/MS, ICP-MS).
- Proficiency in method development, validation, and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of food chemistry principles and regulatory guidelines (e.g., FDA, USDA).
- Excellent data analysis, interpretation, and reporting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Experience with ISO 17025 accreditation and auditing processes.
- Familiarity with various food matrices and their unique analytical challenges.
- Previous experience mentoring junior chemists or technicians.
