Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented CT Scan Analyst with a focus on medical imaging technology and a strong interest in paleontology. In this unique role, you will be instrumental in operating advanced CT scanning equipment to analyze a diverse range of specimens, from ancient fossils to modern biological samples. Your work will directly contribute to groundbreaking research in evolutionary biology, geology, and medical science, utilizing your expertise to acquire, process, and interpret complex imaging data. This position offers an exciting opportunity to combine technical imaging skills with a passion for scientific discovery within a leading academic medical center.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain high-resolution CT scanning equipment for research purposes, specifically focusing on non-human biological and geological specimens, including fossils.
  • Acquire and manage high-quality 2D and 3D imaging data, ensuring optimal scan parameters and data integrity.
  • Perform advanced post-processing, reconstruction, and visualization of CT datasets using specialized software (e.g., Avizo, Dragonfly, Mimics, Slicer).
  • Analyze and interpret complex anatomical, structural, and pathological features from CT scans to support paleontological, biological, and medical research projects.
  • Collaborate closely with paleontologists, biologists, medical researchers, and students to understand project requirements and deliver actionable imaging insights.
  • Develop, optimize, and document imaging protocols for various specimen types and research objectives.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues with CT equipment and software, coordinating with service providers as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and ethical guidelines in imaging operations.
  • Contribute to publications, presentations, and grant proposals by providing imaging expertise and data.

Required Skills

  • Proven proficiency in operating and troubleshooting CT imaging systems.
  • Strong experience with 3D medical or scientific imaging software for data reconstruction, visualization, and analysis (e.g., OsiriX, MIMICS, AMIRA, Slicer, Avizo, Dragonfly).
  • Solid understanding of cross-sectional anatomy and imaging principles.
  • Excellent data analysis, interpretation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Biology, Geology, or a closely related scientific field.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with non-human specimen imaging (e.g., zoology, botany, paleontology).
  • A background or strong interest in paleontology, geology, evolutionary biology, or comparative anatomy.
  • Experience with 3D modeling and additive manufacturing (3D printing) technologies from scan data.
  • Certification as a CT Technologist (e.g., ARRT CT) or equivalent professional accreditation.
  • Master's degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
