Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous Espresso Machine Descaler to join our cafe maintenance team in Winterthur. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, longevity, and hygiene of our high-volume espresso machines. This involves routine descaling, thorough cleaning, and preventative maintenance to uphold our high standards of coffee quality and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to maintaining a pristine and functional cafe environment. This is an on-site role vital to the daily operations of our busy cafes.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and deep descaling procedures on various models of espresso machines and grinders according to established schedules and manufacturer guidelines.
- Conduct thorough cleaning of internal components, group heads, steam wands, and drip trays to prevent mineral buildup and ensure optimal taste.
- Execute preventative maintenance checks, including inspecting water filters, seals, and hoses for wear and tear.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot minor mechanical issues or performance irregularities and perform basic repairs or escalate complex problems to senior technicians.
- Maintain an organized inventory of descaling agents, cleaning supplies, and replacement parts.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and hygiene standards applicable to food service equipment.
- Document maintenance activities, including dates, procedures performed, and any issues identified or resolved.
- Provide basic training and guidance to cafe staff on daily cleaning routines and simple machine care.
- Collaborate with cafe managers and staff to schedule maintenance with minimal disruption to service.
Required Skills
- Proven mechanical aptitude and comfort working with machinery.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a methodical approach to tasks.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintenance checklists precisely.
- Basic problem-solving skills for diagnosing minor equipment issues.
- Strong physical stamina, including the ability to lift up to 20kg, bend, squat, and stand for extended periods.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
- Effective communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a maintenance role, particularly with coffee or food service equipment.
- Knowledge of plumbing systems or appliance repair.
- Understanding of water quality and its impact on espresso machines.
- Familiarity with food safety and hygiene regulations in Switzerland.
- Technical certification or vocational training in a related field.
- Fluency in German, spoken and written.
