Job Description
Join our dedicated team at AdventHealth as a Hospital Pharmacy Technician in a challenging yet rewarding Clinical Role. This position plays a critical part in supporting our pharmacists and nursing staff during the night shift, ensuring timely and accurate medication delivery, preparation, and inventory management for patient care. You will be instrumental in maintaining medication safety protocols and contributing to positive patient outcomes. The night shift differential offers an enhanced compensation package for your commitment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and dispense medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, including sterile and non-sterile compounding.
- Maintain accurate medication inventory, including ordering, receiving, and stocking pharmaceuticals.
- Assist pharmacists in medication reconciliation, patient medication histories, and clinical interventions.
- Operate and troubleshoot automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs) and other pharmacy technology.
- Conduct routine inspections of medication storage areas to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Provide excellent customer service to nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
- Manage medication returns and waste according to established procedures.
- Perform tasks related to controlled substance management and documentation.
- Support the training and mentorship of new pharmacy technicians and students.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Current Florida Pharmacy Technician registration (R.Ph.T.).
- PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) certification.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital or clinical setting.
- Proficiency in pharmacy calculations and medication dosage forms.
- Demonstrated understanding of sterile compounding techniques and USP <797>/<800> guidelines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Flexibility to work night shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's Degree or higher in a related field.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic) and pharmacy management software (e.g., Cerner).
- Prior experience in a specialized clinical area such as oncology, critical care, or emergency medicine.
- Advanced knowledge of pharmaceutical nomenclature and pharmacology.
