Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Electrical Engineer with a specialization in High Voltage (HV) systems to join our dynamic team in Hamilton, Ontario. This role offers an exceptional opportunity for an international candidate as visa sponsorship is available. The successful candidate will play a critical role in the design, development, maintenance, and upgrade of our high voltage infrastructure, ensuring the reliable and safe transmission and distribution of electricity across Ontario. You will work on challenging projects involving substations, transmission lines, protective relaying, and SCADA systems, contributing to the backbone of our province’s power grid.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, analyze, and oversee the implementation of high voltage electrical systems, including substations, transmission lines, and distribution networks.
- Conduct detailed engineering studies, fault analysis, and power flow simulations for HV systems.
- Develop technical specifications, engineering standards, and procedures in compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Provide technical support and guidance to field teams during the construction, commissioning, and maintenance of HV equipment.
- Participate in root cause analysis for system disturbances, equipment failures, and operational incidents.
- Manage projects from conceptualization through to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and safety standards.
- Collaborate with internal departments, external contractors, and regulatory bodies.
- Prepare comprehensive engineering reports, presentations, and documentation.
- Stay abreast of new technologies, industry trends, and regulatory changes in high voltage engineering.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in high voltage power systems design, operation, or maintenance.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical power transmission and distribution principles, substation design, and protective relaying.
- Proficiency with power system analysis software (e.g., ETAP, PSCAD, CYME).
- Familiarity with relevant Canadian electrical codes, standards (e.g., CSA, IEEE), and regulations.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license in Ontario or eligibility for registration.
- Experience with SCADA systems and remote control technologies.
- Project management experience, particularly in the utilities sector.
- Knowledge of renewable energy integration into high voltage grids.
- Experience with arc flash and short circuit studies.
