Job Description
Join the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) as a Public Transit Security Officer. In this vital role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of passengers, staff, and property across the STM network. This position involves shift work, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, and comes with a comprehensive benefits package. You will patrol designated areas, respond to incidents, enforce regulations, and provide assistance to the public, all while upholding a professional and approachable demeanor. This is an on-site role, critical to maintaining a secure and reliable public transit system for the city of Montréal.
Key Responsibilities
- Patrol and monitor designated transit properties, including stations, bus terminals, and surrounding areas, to deter criminal activity and ensure a safe environment.
- Respond to security alarms, disturbances, medical emergencies, and other incidents promptly and effectively, coordinating with emergency services as needed.
- Enforce STM regulations, provincial laws, and company policies to maintain order and passenger compliance.
- Conduct investigations into security incidents, prepare detailed reports, and gather evidence.
- Provide assistance and information to passengers and the public, promoting a positive transit experience.
- Operate and monitor CCTV systems and other security equipment.
- Collaborate with local law enforcement and emergency services during critical events.
- Perform inspections of facilities and equipment to identify and report potential security risks or maintenance issues.
- Participate in training and professional development programs to enhance security knowledge and skills.
Required Skills
- Valid Security Guard License (or ability to obtain one prior to start date)
- Strong observational and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure
- Basic computer proficiency for report writing and data entry
- Physical fitness to conduct patrols and respond to emergencies
- Availability to work various shifts (days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays)
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (College diploma in security or related field preferred)
- Previous experience in public security, law enforcement, or transit security
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Bilingualism (French and English) is a significant asset
- Knowledge of local bylaws and provincial legislation pertinent to public safety
