Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Student Data Specialist to join our academic support team. This is an entry-level position perfect for individuals eager to start a career in higher education administration and data management. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate student records, processing data requests, and providing essential administrative support to various departments. This role requires exceptional organizational skills, a strong commitment to data integrity, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced university environment. Training will be provided to ensure success in navigating our student information systems and data protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately enter and maintain student data in the university's student information systems (SIS).
- Process student record updates, including enrollments, withdrawals, grade changes, and personal information modifications.
- Respond to data requests from faculty, staff, and students in compliance with privacy regulations (FERPA).
- Assist with data validation and quality control initiatives to ensure accuracy and completeness of records.
- Generate standard and ad-hoc reports as needed for various departmental and university-wide initiatives.
- Provide administrative support to academic advisors and other student service departments.
- Assist with the implementation of new data entry procedures and system enhancements.
- Maintain confidentiality of all student records and sensitive information.
- Collaborate with IT and other departments to troubleshoot data-related issues.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with system updates and best practices.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to learn new software and systems quickly.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Business Administration, Data Science, Education).
- Some experience (academic or professional) with data entry or record keeping.
- Familiarity with student information systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Banner).
- Understanding of higher education administrative processes.
