Otis Elevator Company is seeking a dedicated and eager Elevator / Escalator Modernization Helper to join our dynamic team in Barrie, Ontario. This is an unparalleled opportunity to learn the intricacies of elevator and escalator systems, working alongside experienced technicians on modernization projects that enhance safety, efficiency, and performance. No prior elevator experience is required – we’re looking for individuals with a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to learning. This role offers hands-on training, mentorship, and a clear pathway to becoming a certified Elevator Mechanic.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist lead mechanics in the modernization, repair, and installation of elevator and escalator systems.
- Safely transport tools, equipment, and materials to and from job sites.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Learn and adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.
- Perform basic tasks under supervision, such as preparing work areas, dismantling old components, and preparing new parts for installation.
- Actively participate in on-the-job training and mentorship programs.
- Communicate effectively with team members and site personnel.
- Demonstrate a keen interest in learning and developing technical skills.
Required Skills
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively in a team.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), climb ladders, and work in various conditions.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to company policies.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a construction, manufacturing, or other hands-on trade environment.
- Familiarity with basic hand and power tools.
- Ability to read and interpret basic technical drawings or schematics.
- Enrollment in or completion of a relevant technical program.
