Job Description
As a Warehouse Sorter at UPS, you will play a critical role in the efficient flow of packages through our distribution center in San Antonio. This is a fast-paced environment where precision and speed are key to meeting our delivery commitments. You will be responsible for accurately sorting various package sizes and weights, ensuring they are directed to the correct outbound routes. This position requires significant physical activity, including standing, walking, lifting, and repetitive motion for extended periods. We value reliability, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team without direct supervision after initial training. No phone calls for this position; all applications must be submitted online.
Key Responsibilities
- Sort packages and freight according to destination, size, and weight requirements.
- Load and unload packages from trucks and conveyor belts safely and efficiently.
- Scan packages and update tracking information using handheld devices as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure a safe operating environment.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety guidelines and operational procedures.
- Operate equipment such as pallet jacks or hand trucks if certified (training may be provided).
- Assist in other general warehouse operations and tasks as required by supervisors.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift and carry packages weighing up to 70 lbs independently (with assistance for heavier items).
- Capability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy in sorting and scanning.
- Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced and physically demanding work environment.
- Reliable and punctual attendance is essential.
- Basic understanding of warehouse operations and logistics is beneficial.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a warehouse, logistics, or production environment.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, nights, and weekends.
- Familiarity with scanning equipment and warehouse management systems.
