Job Description

Waste Management, Inc. in Georgetown, Seattle, is seeking motivated individuals to join our Trainee Heavy Vehicle Operator program. This is an incredible opportunity to receive fully paid CDL-A training and obtain your Commercial Driver’s License, setting you up for a rewarding career as a Heavy Vehicle Operator. No prior experience is required – we’re looking for individuals with a strong work ethic, a commitment to safety, and a desire to learn and grow within our organization. Upon successful completion of the CDL-A training and certification, you will transition into a full-time Heavy Vehicle Operator role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate actively in a comprehensive paid CDL-A training program to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License.
  • Learn and adhere to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies and procedures.
  • Operate heavy vehicles, such as front-end loaders, roll-off trucks, or tractor-trailers, safely and efficiently after obtaining CDL-A.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment; complete daily vehicle inspection reports.
  • Navigate routes efficiently, demonstrating good judgment and adherence to scheduled pickups/deliveries.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, supervisors, and customers as required.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly vehicle.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned to support operations.

Required Skills

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment DOT physical, drug screen, and background check.
  • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to all regulations.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks.
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Prior experience operating any type of heavy equipment or large vehicles (even non-CDL).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
