Job Description
Cal Poly Pomona is seeking dedicated and responsible students to join our team as Student Site Marshalls with a focus on Safety & Traffic. In this vital part-time role, you will contribute directly to maintaining a safe and orderly campus environment, particularly during peak hours, special events, and construction periods. You will be responsible for guiding pedestrian and vehicular traffic, enforcing campus safety policies, and providing assistance to ensure smooth operations across the university grounds. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in safety management, communication, and event coordination within a dynamic university setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct pedestrian and vehicular traffic flow during arrivals, departures, and special events to prevent congestion and ensure safety.
- Enforce campus traffic regulations and parking policies.
- Monitor designated areas for safety hazards, unauthorized activities, or suspicious behavior and report findings to appropriate personnel.
- Provide clear and concise directions and assistance to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Assist with setting up and taking down traffic control devices, signage, and barricades.
- Respond promptly to incidents, provide initial assistance, and alert emergency services or campus security as needed.
- Maintain a visible and professional presence, acting as a resource and deterrent.
- Communicate effectively via two-way radio or other designated communication systems.
- Complete incident reports and daily logs accurately.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled as a student at Cal Poly Pomona or a local educational institution.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work independently or as part of a team.
- Basic problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to campus policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a customer service, event support, or security role.
- Familiarity with campus layout and traffic patterns.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed for events.
