Job Description
Join Sysco as a Retail Distribution Driver in Carmel, Indiana, focusing on local night shifts with premium pay. This is a critical role responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of food products and supplies to our diverse customer base. You will operate commercial vehicles, primarily heavy-duty trucks, to transport goods from our distribution center to various retail establishments, restaurants, and institutions within a defined local service area. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, excellent customer service, and the ability to work independently during night hours. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy-duty trucks (e.g., Class A CDL vehicles) for local retail deliveries during night hours.
- Transport products and supplies from the distribution center to customer locations following established routes and schedules.
- Unload products at customer sites, which may involve using hand trucks, pallet jacks, or other equipment.
- Verify accuracy of deliveries against invoices and obtain necessary signatures.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and report any maintenance issues promptly.
- Adhere to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety standards.
- Provide exceptional customer service during deliveries, addressing any customer inquiries or concerns professionally.
- Maintain accurate logbooks and delivery records.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch and warehouse personnel.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Clean driving record (MVR)
- Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen
- Proficiency in operating heavy-duty trucks and associated equipment
- Strong physical stamina and ability to lift, push, and pull up to 75 lbs regularly
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and adhere to tight schedules
- Commitment to safety and compliance with all traffic laws and company policies
- Flexibility to work night shifts and occasional weekends or holidays as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of commercial driving experience, preferably in food service distribution
- Experience operating refrigeration units on trailers
- Knowledge of local routes and geographic area of Carmel, Indiana, and surrounding regions
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot minor vehicle issues
