Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Formulation Chemist to join our dynamic R&D team as a Team Lead. In this pivotal role, you will lead the development of innovative, high-performance consumer products, from concept to commercialization. You will be responsible for spearheading formulation projects, optimizing existing products, and ensuring all formulations meet stringent quality, safety, and regulatory standards. As a Team Lead, you will also mentor junior chemists, manage project timelines, and foster a collaborative environment focused on scientific excellence and groundbreaking product development within our Nampa facility. This position offers a performance bonus tied to successful product launches and project milestones.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the research, development, and optimization of new and existing consumer product formulations across various categories (e.g., personal care, cosmetics, home care, nutritional supplements).
- Manage and mentor a small team of junior formulation chemists, providing technical guidance, training, and performance feedback.
- Design and execute experiments, analyze data, and interpret results to drive formulation improvements and innovation.
- Select raw materials and ingredients based on functionality, cost, safety, regulatory compliance, and market trends.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Manufacturing, and Marketing teams to ensure seamless product development and launch.
- Conduct stability testing, compatibility testing, and performance evaluations of formulations.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, batch records, and specifications for new products and reformulations.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, new raw materials, and emerging technologies in formulation chemistry.
- Ensure all formulations comply with relevant national and international regulations and internal quality standards.
- Actively contribute to problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives within the R&D department.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in consumer product formulation (e.g., personal care, cosmetics, home care, OTC).
- Strong understanding of raw material properties, their interactions, and processing techniques.
- Experience with laboratory equipment and analytical instrumentation.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and team mentoring abilities.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in data analysis and technical report writing.
- Knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and quality control principles.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements for consumer products (e.g., FDA, Health Canada, EU regulations).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field.
- Experience with natural and/or organic product formulations.
- Certification in relevant industry standards or practices.
- Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Track record of successful product launches from concept to market.
