Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Process Development Chemist to join our dynamic R&D team in Pueblo, CO. This role is crucial for scaling up innovative chemical processes from lab to manufacturing, ensuring robust, efficient, and cost-effective production. You will be instrumental in optimizing existing processes, troubleshooting production issues, and leading the implementation of new technologies. Key Responsibilities
- Design, plan, and execute experiments for process optimization and scale-up from bench to pilot and manufacturing scale.
- Develop and refine robust chemical processes, focusing on yield, purity, safety, and cost-efficiency.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges encountered during process development and manufacturing transfer.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, manufacturing, engineering, and quality assurance teams.
- Conduct comprehensive data analysis, interpret results, and present findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
- Document all experimental work, process development activities, and provide detailed technical reports.
- Identify and evaluate new technologies, raw materials, and equipment to enhance process performance.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and environmental guidelines.
- Mentor junior chemists and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field (or M.S. with significant industrial experience).
- Minimum 5 years of industrial experience in process development, scale-up, or manufacturing support in a chemical or related industry.
- Proven expertise in reaction kinetics, process optimization, and experimental design (DoE).
- Strong understanding of analytical techniques for process monitoring and product characterization (e.g., GC, HPLC, NMR, FTIR).
- Demonstrated ability to translate lab-scale processes to pilot and manufacturing scale.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with statistical software for data analysis and process control.
- Familiarity with GMP or ISO quality systems.
- Knowledge of process modeling and simulation tools.
- Experience in the specialty chemicals, coatings, or advanced materials industry.
- Track record of successful technology transfer and commercialization of new processes.
