Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Prior Authorization Specialist to join our remote team. In this role, you will be responsible for processing prior authorization requests for prescription medications, ensuring timely and accurate submission and follow-up. This position requires strong organizational skills, excellent communication, and a commitment to patient care. As a fully remote position, you will work from the comfort of your home, collaborating with a supportive team across the country.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and review prior authorization requests from healthcare providers and patients.
- Verify patient eligibility and medication coverage with insurance providers.
- Complete and submit prior authorization forms accurately and efficiently to health plans.
- Communicate effectively with prescribers' offices, patients, and insurance companies regarding prior authorization status and requirements.
- Document all communications and actions meticulously in the designated systems.
- Follow up on pending authorizations to ensure timely approvals and resolutions.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of pharmacy policies, insurance guidelines, and medical necessity criteria.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies or issues related to prior authorization requests.
- Provide exceptional customer service and support to all stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a healthcare or pharmacy setting, preferably with prior authorization experience.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and prescription medications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in using computer systems, including electronic health records (EHR) and pharmacy management software.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to multitask and manage a high volume of work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification.
- Experience with specific prior authorization platforms or software.
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance plans.
