Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Paleontology Grant Writer to join our dynamic non-profit team. This crucial remote role will be responsible for identifying, developing, and submitting compelling grant proposals to secure funding for our cutting-edge paleontological research, expeditions, specimen preservation, and educational programs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of the grant lifecycle, exceptional writing skills, and a passion for scientific discovery and education.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and identify potential funding opportunities from foundations, government agencies, corporations, and individual donors that align with the Museum's paleontological goals.
- Develop and write persuasive, accurate, and grammatically correct grant proposals, letters of inquiry, concept papers, and other fundraising materials.
- Collaborate closely with paleontologists, researchers, and project managers to gather necessary information, data, and budget details for proposals.
- Manage the entire grant submission process, including proposal review, editing, and timely submission.
- Maintain a comprehensive grants calendar and tracking system for all proposals, reports, and deadlines.
- Prepare and submit grant reports to funders, ensuring compliance with all grant requirements and reporting guidelines.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with funders and potential donors.
- Stay informed about current trends in paleontology research, funding landscapes, and best practices in grant writing.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (3+ years) in grant writing, preferably within a scientific, research, or non-profit organization.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex scientific information into engaging narratives for diverse audiences.
- Strong research and analytical skills to identify funding opportunities and gather relevant data.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Proficiency with grant management software and CRM systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Science (Biology, Geology, Paleontology), or a related field.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Familiarity with federal grant agencies (e.g., NSF, NEH) and their application processes.
- Understanding of scientific research methodologies and terminology, particularly in paleontology.
- Experience with fundraising strategies and donor relations.
