Job Description

As a Paleontology Exhibit Designer, you will bring ancient worlds to life, creating captivating and educational experiences for our diverse audience. This role involves conceptualizing, designing, and developing compelling exhibits that showcase paleontological discoveries, evolutionary history, and the scientific process. You will work closely with paleontologists, educators, fabricators, and other design professionals to translate complex scientific concepts into accessible and engaging interactive displays, immersive environments, and visually stunning installations. Your creativity will inspire curiosity and foster a deeper understanding of Earth’s prehistoric past.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the conceptualization and development of engaging paleontological exhibit designs from initial brief to final installation.
  • Conduct research on paleontological topics to ensure scientific accuracy and compelling narrative development.
  • Create detailed design plans, including 2D layouts, 3D renderings, material specifications, and technical drawings.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (curatorial, education, marketing, operations) and external fabricators, AV specialists, and graphic designers.
  • Manage project timelines and budgets for exhibit design components.
  • Develop interactive elements, multimedia components, and graphic content that enhance visitor engagement.
  • Ensure all designs meet accessibility standards and provide an inclusive experience for all visitors.
  • Present design concepts to stakeholders and incorporate feedback effectively.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Exhibit Design, Architecture, Museum Studies, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of professional experience in exhibit design, museum design, or themed entertainment design, with a portfolio demonstrating strong creative and technical skills.
  • Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex scientific information into engaging public exhibits.
  • Excellent visual communication, storytelling, and spatial design skills.
  • Strong project management abilities and experience working with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of museum best practices, conservation, and visitor engagement strategies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant design or museum studies field.
  • Specific experience designing paleontology or natural history exhibits.
  • Experience with interactive technology and digital media integration in exhibits.
  • Familiarity with fabrication processes and materials used in museum environments.
  • A passion for natural history, paleontology, and science communication.
