Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Online UPS Specialist with a strong focus on data integrity to join our critical infrastructure team in Manhattan. In this role, you will be responsible for the continuous operation, maintenance, and optimization of our Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, ensuring maximum uptime and data protection for our vital data centers and operational facilities. Your expertise will directly contribute to safeguarding business-critical data against power fluctuations and outages, maintaining the highest levels of reliability and availability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and corrective repairs on all Online UPS systems and associated power distribution units (PDUs).
  • Monitor UPS performance metrics, alarms, and logs proactively to identify potential issues and ensure optimal operational health.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for any UPS-related failures or incidents, implementing permanent solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Manage and coordinate third-party vendor services for specialized UPS maintenance and major component replacements.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for UPS configurations, maintenance procedures, and emergency response protocols.
  • Participate in the design, planning, and implementation of new UPS installations and upgrades, ensuring adherence to industry best practices and data integrity requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to data center operations teams regarding power infrastructure and emergency power procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety standards, environmental regulations, and internal company policies.
  • Contribute to disaster recovery planning and testing efforts related to power infrastructure.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of spare parts and critical components for all UPS systems.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience working with Online UPS systems in a data center or critical infrastructure environment.
  • Proven expertise in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of various UPS topologies (e.g., double conversion, line-interactive).
  • Strong understanding of electrical principles, power distribution, and battery technologies.
  • Familiarity with environmental monitoring systems (EMS) and Building Management Systems (BMS) relevant to power infrastructure.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical manuals.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and test equipment for electrical systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety protocols and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related technical field.
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Uptime Institute Accredited Operations Specialist, Data Center Design/Operations certifications).
  • Experience with specific UPS manufacturers (e.g., Eaton, APC, Vertiv, Liebert).
  • Knowledge of data center power efficiency strategies.
  • Familiarity with ITIL framework for incident and change management.
