Job Description

The Cognitive Lab at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Neuroscience Research Intern. This is an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates interested in gaining hands-on experience in cognitive neuroscience research. The intern will support various research projects, contributing to data collection, analysis, and experimental design under the guidance of experienced researchers. This role provides invaluable exposure to a dynamic research environment and the chance to contribute to impactful scientific discoveries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the recruitment, screening, and scheduling of research participants.
  • Support data collection using various methods, including behavioral tasks, eye-tracking, and potentially EEG/fMRI (training provided).
  • Perform preliminary data cleaning, organization, and analysis under supervision.
  • Contribute to literature reviews and background research for ongoing projects.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of experimental procedures and data.
  • Prepare research materials, stimuli, and equipment for experiments.
  • Participate in lab meetings, journal clubs, and scientific discussions.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor's program in Neuroscience, Psychology, Biology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated interest in cognitive neuroscience research.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a research lab setting (academic or industry).
  • Familiarity with statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS, Python) or programming languages for experiment design (e.g., PsychoPy, E-Prime).
  • Basic understanding of neuroanatomy and cognitive psychology principles.
