Job Description
We are seeking a highly accurate and detail-oriented Media Interview Typist with a strong focus on journalism to join our remote team. This is a 100% remote position, offering flexibility and the opportunity to contribute to one of the world’s leading news organizations. You will be responsible for transcribing interviews, press conferences, and other audio content for journalistic purposes, ensuring precision and adherence to editorial standards. This role requires excellent listening skills, a keen eye for detail, and an understanding of journalistic ethics and deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Transcribe audio and video recordings of interviews, speeches, and other media content with high accuracy and speed.
- Ensure all transcriptions accurately reflect the spoken word, including nuances, pauses, and speaker identification.
- Adhere strictly to style guides and editorial standards, including AP style where applicable.
- Manage multiple transcription projects simultaneously, meeting tight deadlines.
- Proofread and edit transcriptions to eliminate errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding sensitive journalistic content.
- Communicate effectively with editors and team members regarding project status or challenges.
Required Skills
- Exceptional typing speed (minimum 65 WPM) and accuracy.
- Excellent listening comprehension and ability to discern challenging audio.
- Strong command of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Proficiency in using transcription software and word processing tools.
- High level of attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment.
- Understanding of journalistic principles and ethical considerations in media.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in media transcription, legal transcription, or medical transcription.
- Familiarity with The Associated Press (AP) Stylebook.
- Background or education in journalism, communications, or related fields.
- Experience with specialized transcription tools and digital audio editing software.
- Ability to work with diverse audio accents and varying audio quality.
