Job Description
As a Local Council Tax Advisor, you will be the primary point of contact for residents regarding their council tax queries. This crucial customer-facing role involves providing accurate, empathetic, and comprehensive advice on council tax liability, payments, exemptions, discounts, and support schemes. You will manage a caseload of inquiries, process applications, and ensure residents understand their obligations and entitlements, all while upholding the highest standards of customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide accurate and up-to-date advice on all aspects of Council Tax to residents via various channels (in-person, phone, email).
- Process applications for discounts, exemptions, and council tax support in accordance with legislation and local policies.
- Investigate and resolve complex council tax queries, escalating issues when necessary.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of all customer interactions and case progress.
- Collaborate with internal departments to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Educate residents on payment options and assist in setting up payment plans.
- Stay informed about changes in council tax legislation and local policies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a customer service or advisory role, ideally in a public sector or financial environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly and empathetically.
- Strong numeracy skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage a busy caseload.
- Proficiency in using IT systems and databases.
- A genuine commitment to public service and helping residents.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with council tax or benefits administration.
- Knowledge of local government operations.
- Ability to speak additional languages relevant to Camden's diverse community.
- NVQ Level 3 in Customer Service or equivalent.
