Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Junior Legislative Assistant with a strong background in political science to join our dynamic team in Irvine. This hybrid role offers the chance to contribute to impactful public policy initiatives and legislative research, working closely with senior attorneys and policy advisors. The ideal candidate will possess excellent research, analytical, and communication skills, coupled with a passion for government and the legislative process. You will support a diverse portfolio of clients, providing critical assistance in monitoring legislative developments, drafting policy documents, and preparing comprehensive reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth research on legislative proposals, public policy issues, and political developments at federal, state, and local levels.
- Monitor legislative calendars, committee hearings, and bill progress, providing timely updates to internal teams and clients.
- Draft memos, summaries, policy briefs, and other written materials related to legislative and regulatory matters.
- Assist in the preparation of presentations, reports, and talking points for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support client engagement by compiling relevant information and preparing meeting materials.
- Maintain organized databases of legislative documents, contacts, and research findings.
- Collaborate with attorneys and government relations specialists on various projects.
- Attend virtual and in-person meetings, hearings, and briefings as required.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Government, or a related field.
- Proven research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated interest in the legislative process and public policy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous internship or volunteer experience in a legislative office, political campaign, government agency, or public affairs firm.
- Familiarity with legislative tracking software or databases.
- Basic understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks.
- Ability to speak a second language relevant to California's diverse population.
