Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Inpatient Pharmacy Technician to join our dynamic pharmacy team at AdventHealth New Port Richey. In this vital role, you will work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, assisting with the preparation and dispensing of medications, managing inventory, and ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of pharmaceutical services to our inpatients. This position is critical to maintaining patient safety and supporting the overall healthcare mission of our hospital. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, label, and dispense medications for inpatients, including oral, topical, and injectable drugs, under pharmacist supervision.
  • Accurately compound sterile and non-sterile preparations according to established protocols and USP guidelines.
  • Maintain precise inventory control, including ordering, receiving, and stocking medications, and monitoring expiration dates.
  • Operate and maintain automated dispensing systems and other pharmacy equipment.
  • Conduct daily quality assurance checks and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Assist pharmacists in medication reconciliation, patient education, and drug information retrieval as needed.
  • Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and state and federal regulations concerning pharmacy practice and patient safety.
  • Communicate effectively with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of patient care.
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development activities to maintain certification and enhance skills.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Current Florida Pharmacy Technician registration
  • Current PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) certification (CPhT)
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably in a hospital or inpatient setting
  • Proficiency in basic mathematical calculations relevant to pharmacy operations
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing
  • Basic computer literacy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with sterile compounding (IV preparation)
  • Familiarity with hospital pharmacy computer systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner)
  • Associate’s degree in a related field
  • Experience with automated dispensing cabinets (e.g., Pyxis, Omnicell)
