Job Description
Join Kaiser Permanente’s dedicated pharmacy team as an Inpatient Pharmacy Aide at our Santa Clara Medical Center. In this vital night shift, hospital ward-based role, you will play a crucial part in supporting our pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, ensuring the timely and accurate distribution of medications to our patients. This position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to patient safety in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in the preparation and distribution of medications.
- Deliver medications, supplies, and intravenous solutions to patient care areas and nursing stations throughout the hospital wards during night shifts.
- Maintain inventory of medications and supplies, including stocking shelves, rotating stock, and identifying expired items.
- Perform routine clerical tasks, such as answering phones, filing, and data entry related to pharmacy operations.
- Ensure proper storage, security, and integrity of medications according to established protocols.
- Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and compliant pharmacy workspace.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety regulations, with a particular focus on night shift operations and security protocols.
- Support patient safety initiatives through accurate and timely medication handling and documentation.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Basic mathematical skills for medication calculations and inventory management.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately and precisely.
- Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all tasks.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, especially during night shifts.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with staff.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, lift (up to 25 lbs), and push frequently throughout the shift.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a hospital pharmacy, retail pharmacy, or other healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and pharmaceutical names.
- Current Pharmacy Technician certification (PTCB or equivalent) is a plus, though not required for this aide role.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems and pharmacy automation.
