Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and efficient Hospital Storeman & Porter with a strong focus on inventory management to join our dynamic team. This pivotal role involves the comprehensive management of medical supplies and equipment within our warehouse and distribution across various hospital departments. The successful candidate will ensure the smooth flow of essential items, maintain accurate stock records, and provide critical portering services to support daily hospital operations. This is an on-site role vital to the functioning of our healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage incoming deliveries, ensuring accurate checking, logging, and storage of goods.
  • Maintain precise inventory records using designated stock control systems.
  • Organise and rotate stock, adhering to FIFO (First-In, First-Out) principles and expiry dates.
  • Prepare and dispatch orders to various hospital departments efficiently and accurately.
  • Conduct regular stock takes and reconcile discrepancies.
  • Transport medical supplies, equipment, and other items safely and promptly between departments.
  • Assist with the setup and relocation of equipment as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe warehouse environment.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, manual handling guidelines, and trust policies.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a storeman, warehouse, or logistics role, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong understanding of inventory management principles and stock control systems.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and moving heavy items, in accordance with manual handling guidelines.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic IT literacy for data entry and stock management software.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Forklift truck license (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Experience with NHS procurement and logistics systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP).
  • NVQ Level 2 in Warehousing and Storage or equivalent.
  • Full UK Driving License.
