Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Home Infusion Pharmacy Technician to join our specialized clinical team in Provo, UT. In this critical role, you will play a vital part in preparing and dispensing sterile compounded medications for patients receiving home infusion therapy. You will work closely with pharmacists and nurses to ensure the accurate and timely delivery of life-sustaining treatments, contributing directly to patient well-being and recovery in a home setting. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, adherence to strict sterile compounding protocols, and a commitment to patient safety and quality care.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare sterile compounded parenteral medications, including antibiotics, hydration, pain management, and total parenteral nutrition (TPN), accurately and according to physician orders and established protocols.
- Operate and maintain sterile compounding equipment and a cleanroom environment in compliance with USP <797> and <800> standards.
- Perform calculations to determine appropriate drug dosages and ensure accuracy of medication preparation.
- Manage inventory of medications and supplies, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating stock to prevent expired products.
- Assist pharmacists in checking prescriptions, preparing labels, and ensuring all necessary documentation is complete.
- Communicate effectively with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals regarding patient needs and medication status.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to medication preparation, dispensing, and inventory.
- Participate in quality assurance activities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- Current Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) from the PTCB or NHA.
- Active state pharmacy technician license in Utah.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in an acute care hospital or home infusion pharmacy setting, with direct experience in sterile compounding (USP <797>).
- Proficiency in aseptic technique and cleanroom procedures.
- Strong mathematical skills for dosage calculations.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with compounding hazardous drugs (USP <800>).
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related scientific field.
- Familiarity with pharmacy management software specific to infusion services.
- Previous experience in a lead or training role.
