Job Description

Join UW Health as a High School Lab Runner with a focus on medical records. This entry-level, part-time position is ideal for high school students looking to gain valuable experience in a healthcare setting. You will be instrumental in supporting our laboratory operations and ensuring the efficient flow of critical medical records and specimens. This role provides an excellent opportunity to learn about healthcare administration, laboratory processes, and the importance of accurate record-keeping in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transport medical specimens, supplies, and records between various departments and laboratory areas within the facility.
  • Maintain accurate logs of specimen and record transfers, ensuring proper documentation and chain of custody.
  • Assist with the organization and filing of medical records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Deliver and retrieve mail, packages, and other items as needed to support laboratory and administrative staff.
  • Perform general clerical duties such as scanning, photocopying, and data entry related to medical records.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of designated work areas and transport equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, institutional policies, and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in high school.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Comfortable working in a healthcare environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in a career in healthcare, laboratory science, or medical administration.
  • Basic computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Previous experience in a volunteer or paid capacity requiring responsibility and reliability.
