Job Description
As an Expert Level Heavy Recovery Specialist at Ryder System, Inc. in Roseville, you will be a crucial part of our elite team responsible for the safe and efficient recovery of heavy-duty vehicles involved in accidents, breakdowns, or complex off-road situations. This high-impact role demands exceptional skill, advanced problem-solving abilities, and a deep understanding of heavy recovery techniques and equipment. You will lead complex recovery operations, often in challenging environments, ensuring minimal further damage to vehicles and cargo, and prioritizing safety for all involved. Your expertise will be vital in maintaining our fleet’s operational readiness and supporting our clients’ critical logistics needs. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute complex heavy-duty vehicle recovery operations, including rollovers, jackknifes, and off-road incidents.
- Operate a wide range of specialized heavy recovery equipment, including rotators, heavy-duty wreckers, air cushions, and auxiliary support vehicles.
- Conduct thorough on-site assessments to determine the safest and most efficient recovery strategy.
- Implement rigorous safety protocols and incident management procedures to protect personnel, the public, and property.
- Communicate effectively with emergency services, law enforcement, customers, and internal teams during recovery operations.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections of recovery equipment to ensure readiness and operational safety.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to less experienced recovery specialists, sharing advanced techniques and best practices.
Required Skills
- Proven expert-level proficiency in heavy-duty towing and recovery techniques.
- Extensive experience operating various heavy recovery equipment and specialized tools.
- Deep understanding of vehicle dynamics, load securement, and weight distribution principles.
- Exceptional problem-solving and critical thinking skills under pressure.
- Strong adherence to safety regulations and environmental protection protocols.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an excellent driving record.
- Ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, on-call as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- WreckMaster, TRAA, or equivalent heavy-duty recovery certification at an advanced level (e.g., WreckMaster Level 6/7, TRAA Level 3/4).
- Experience in incident command or leading recovery teams.
- Advanced mechanical aptitude for minor on-site repairs or troubleshooting.
