Job Description

Akron Public Schools is seeking a compassionate and dedicated School Nurse to join our team, providing essential healthcare services to our K-12 student population. This vital role involves promoting student health, preventing illness, and managing health-related issues within the school setting. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care, first aid, and emergency care to students and staff.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by a physician.
  • Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans for students with chronic conditions.
  • Conduct health screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis) and make appropriate referrals.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.
  • Collaborate with parents, teachers, and other school personnel regarding student health needs.
  • Educate students and staff on health and wellness topics.
  • Assist in the control of communicable diseases within the school community.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal health regulations.

Required Skills

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Ohio.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred, Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) considered with relevant experience.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification (BLS for Healthcare Providers).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in pediatric, community health, or school nursing.
  • Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in maintaining accurate medical records.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Certification as a School Nurse (CSN) or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification.
