Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Heavy Haul Specialist to join our dedicated team in Garland, TX. This critical role involves orchestrating the safe, compliant, and timely transport of challenging oversize and overweight loads across various regions. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of heavy haul operations, including route planning, permit acquisition, load securement, and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage all aspects of oversize and overweight load transportation, from planning to delivery.
- Develop detailed route plans, considering road restrictions, bridges, utilities, and other potential obstacles.
- Obtain necessary permits and escorts from state and local authorities, ensuring full compliance with all regulations.
- Oversee and ensure proper load securement techniques for various types of specialized equipment and commodities.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, clients, authorities, and internal teams to provide updates and resolve issues.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, identifying and reporting any equipment or load deficiencies.
- Maintain accurate logs, documentation, and records related to heavy haul operations.
- Implement and adhere to strict safety protocols and company policies to ensure the well-being of all personnel and the public.
- Provide expertise and guidance on equipment selection and operational best practices for heavy haul projects.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience specifically in heavy haul and oversize load transportation
- Proven knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to oversize/overweight permits and transportation
- Expertise in various load securement techniques and equipment
- Strong geographical knowledge and ability to interpret complex road maps and routing software
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and transportation management systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in specialized load securement (e.g., WSTDA)
- Experience with advanced route planning software for oversize loads
- Previous experience in a supervisory or lead role within heavy haul operations
- Knowledge of DOT safety regulations and compliance
- Ability to conduct basic mechanical inspections and troubleshooting
