Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Forensic Nurse Examiner with a strong focus on legal support and specialized training to join our dedicated team in West Valley City, UT. The successful candidate will play a critical role in providing expert forensic nursing care to victims of violence and trauma, while also offering crucial support within legal contexts. This position requires advanced clinical skills, meticulous documentation, and the ability to provide expert testimony when necessary. You will collaborate closely with law enforcement, legal professionals, and social services to ensure comprehensive care and justice for our patients. Specialized training in forensic examination and legal procedures is paramount for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive forensic examinations for victims of assault, abuse, and trauma, including physical examinations, evidence collection, and photographic documentation.
  • Provide compassionate, trauma-informed care and crisis intervention to patients, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being throughout the examination process.
  • Maintain meticulous and legally defensible documentation of all findings, procedures, and patient interactions in accordance with established protocols and legal standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with law enforcement, legal teams, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate investigations and ensure continuity of care.
  • Serve as an expert witness in court proceedings, providing clear, concise, and objective testimony regarding forensic findings and nursing care.
  • Participate in case reviews, multidisciplinary team meetings, and ongoing professional development to enhance forensic nursing practice and legal acumen.
  • Educate patients, families, and community members on forensic issues, prevention, and available resources.
  • Adhere strictly to ethical guidelines, patient confidentiality, and all relevant state and federal regulations.

Required Skills

  • Current RN license in the State of Utah.
  • Completion of a SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) or FNE (Forensic Nurse Examiner) training program and certification.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in emergency, critical care, or forensic nursing.
  • Demonstrated expertise in forensic evidence collection and preservation techniques.
  • Strong understanding of legal processes, court procedures, and the role of expert testimony.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and forensic documentation systems.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in high-stress situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) or a related field.
  • Advanced certification in forensic nursing (e.g., AFN-BC).
  • Previous experience providing expert witness testimony in legal settings.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and victim advocacy services.
