Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Dialysis/Renal Nurse to join our specialized renal unit in Derry. This is an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated nursing professional looking to advance their career within a leading healthcare trust. The successful candidate will be instrumental in providing expert care to patients undergoing dialysis treatment, managing their complex needs, and contributing to their overall well-being. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, utilizing your skills to deliver high-quality patient care, education, and support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care to individuals undergoing haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis treatments.
  • Monitor patients during dialysis, responding promptly to any changes in their condition or complications.
  • Administer medications safely and accurately as prescribed, including intravenous therapies.
  • Educate patients and their families on renal disease, treatment options, and self-management strategies.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, adhering to professional and Trust guidelines.
  • Operate and troubleshoot dialysis equipment effectively and safely.
  • Participate in the training and mentorship of junior staff and student nurses.
  • Adhere to infection control policies and procedures to ensure a safe clinical environment.
  • Collaborate with nephrologists, dietitians, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.

Required Skills

  • Registered Nurse (NMC registration required)
  • Minimum of 2 years post-registration nursing experience, with at least 1 year in renal or dialysis nursing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of renal physiology, kidney disease, and dialysis modalities.
  • Proficiency in venepuncture and cannulation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-registration qualification in Renal Nursing or equivalent.
  • Experience with various dialysis machines and technologies.
  • Leadership experience or experience as a mentor/preceptor.
  • Knowledge of Northern Ireland healthcare policies and procedures.
