Job Description

Join AECOM’s dynamic team in Cleveland, Ohio, as a Carbon Dating Lab Assistant with a specialized focus on Geochronology and Stable Isotope Analysis. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare geological and environmental samples for carbon dating and stable isotope analysis, following established protocols.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including mass spectrometers, vacuum systems, and sample preparation lines.
  • Perform routine calibration and quality control checks on instrumentation.
  • Accurately record and manage experimental data and results.
  • Assist senior scientists with experimental design and data interpretation.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment, adhering to all safety regulations and best practices.
  • Manage laboratory inventory, including ordering supplies and reagents.
  • Conduct basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
  • Document standard operating procedures and contribute to their improvement.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in basic laboratory techniques (e.g., weighing, pipetting, solution preparation).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and precision in all tasks.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with mass spectrometry, accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS), or stable isotope analysis.
  • Understanding of basic geochronology principles.
  • Experience with vacuum systems or cleanroom environments.
