Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Bioinformatics & Computational Biology Intern to join our Genomics research team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in analyzing large-scale genomic datasets, developing computational pipelines, and contributing to ongoing research projects in a dynamic academic setting. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced researchers and faculty, applying bioinformatics tools and statistical methods to uncover novel biological insights.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the analysis of next-generation sequencing data (e.g., RNA-seq, WGS, WES, ChIP-seq).
- Develop and optimize bioinformatics pipelines and scripts using languages like Python or R.
- Perform statistical analysis and data visualization of genomic data.
- Maintain and organize large datasets, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
- Conduct literature reviews to stay abreast of new bioinformatics tools and methods.
- Prepare summaries, reports, and presentations of research findings.
- Collaborate with experimental biologists and other team members on various projects.
- Participate in lab meetings and seminars.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
- Familiarity with at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, R) for data analysis.
- Basic understanding of Linux/Unix command-line environment.
- Knowledge of fundamental molecular biology and genomics concepts.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with genomic data analysis tools and databases (e.g., SAMtools, GATK, IGV, NCBI, UCSC Genome Browser).
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Exposure to cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP) or high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
- Basic understanding of statistical modeling and machine learning concepts.
- Prior research experience in a genomics or bioinformatics lab.
