Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Automated Dispensing Machine Technician with a focus on Hospital Systems to join our Pharmacy team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and support of our automated medication dispensing systems (e.g., Pyxis, Omnicell). Your expertise will ensure the accurate and efficient distribution of medications, directly contributing to patient safety and the smooth operation of our hospital. This position requires a strong technical aptitude, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to working within a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and cleaning of automated dispensing machines (ADMs) such as Pyxis and Omnicell.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with ADMs, including hardware and software problems, in a timely manner.
  • Load, unload, and organize medications and supplies within ADMs, ensuring accurate inventory and proper storage conditions.
  • Conduct daily audits of ADM contents to verify accuracy and identify discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with Pharmacy, Nursing, and IT departments to optimize ADM performance and integrate new systems or updates.
  • Train new staff on the proper use and functionality of automated dispensing equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory changes.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to medication management and ADM operation.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to medication dispensing and patient safety.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with automated dispensing machines (ADMs) in a hospital or healthcare setting
  • Strong mechanical and technical troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Ability to lift and move up to 30 lbs and stand for extended periods

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a related technical field or Pharmacy Technician certification
  • Experience with specific ADM platforms such as Pyxis or Omnicell
  • Understanding of medication storage requirements and pharmaceutical terminology
  • Experience in a customer service-oriented role within healthcare
