Job Description

Join BASF’s dynamic team in Jersey City, NJ, as an Associate Chemist I through our New Graduate Program. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct experiments and perform laboratory tests under the guidance of senior chemists.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of laboratory instruments and equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
  • Collect, record, and analyze experimental data, interpreting results and identifying trends.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations summarizing experimental findings.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and quality control procedures in the laboratory.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, sharing knowledge and contributing to project goals.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities, including formal mentorship sessions.
  • Maintain an organized and clean work environment, managing chemical inventory and waste disposal.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related scientific field.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of general, organic, and analytical chemistry principles.
  • Hands-on experience with basic laboratory techniques and instrumentation.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and report writing.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to laboratory best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous internship or co-op experience in an industrial laboratory setting.
  • Experience with advanced analytical techniques (e.g., HPLC, GC-MS, Spectroscopy).
  • Participation in undergraduate research projects with demonstrable results.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
