Job Description
Are you a motivated and enthusiastic 14-year-old with a passion for plants and a desire to learn? City Park Botanical Garden is seeking a diligent Greenhouse Helper to join our team! This entry-level, part-time position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in horticultural care, learn about various plant species, and contribute to the beauty of our cherished garden. You’ll work alongside experienced horticulturists, performing essential daily tasks that keep our greenhouses thriving. This is a fantastic chance for responsible teens to develop valuable work skills in a beautiful and educational setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with daily watering of a wide variety of plants in our greenhouses.
- Help with light pruning, deadheading, and general plant grooming to maintain health and appearance.
- Clean and organize greenhouse work areas, ensuring a tidy and efficient environment.
- Assist with repotting small plants and seedlings as directed by senior staff.
- Support the preparation of plants for displays and exhibitions.
- Monitor plants for basic signs of pests or diseases and report findings to supervisors.
- Follow all safety guidelines and instructions related to greenhouse operations.
Required Skills
- Must be 14 years of age or older (proof of age required).
- Genuine enthusiasm for plants, gardening, or nature.
- Ability to follow instructions carefully and work independently after training.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Basic physical stamina, including the ability to lift watering cans, bend, kneel, and stand for periods.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to various tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with home gardening or plant care.
- Curiosity about botany and different plant species.
- Ability to work outdoors and in varied greenhouse temperatures.
