Job Description
Are you passionate about music and working with young people? The San Francisco Conservatory of Music is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Summer Music Camp Counselors for our upcoming seasonal camps. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a vibrant musical community, mentor aspiring young artists, and gain valuable leadership experience. As a Camp Counselor, you will play a crucial role in creating a safe, fun, and enriching environment for campers, ensuring their well-being while supporting their musical development and fostering a love for the arts. Housing and meals will be provided on-site for the duration of the camp.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise campers during all camp activities, including rehearsals, classes, meals, and recreational time.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers, adhering to camp policies and procedures.
- Act as a positive role model and mentor, encouraging campers' musical and personal growth.
- Assist instructors and camp leadership with musical workshops, group activities, and performances.
- Facilitate group dynamics, foster teamwork, and resolve minor conflicts among campers.
- Organize and lead recreational activities, evening programs, and off-campus excursions.
- Participate actively in all staff training sessions and regular meetings.
- Communicate effectively with camp staff, parents, and campers.
- Assist with arrival and departure logistics, administrative tasks, and camp setup/breakdown as needed.
Required Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children and teenagers.
- Patience, enthusiasm, and a positive, energetic attitude.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge or appreciation for music.
- Ability to adapt to changing situations and problem-solve effectively.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain prior to camp start date.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a camp counselor, youth leader, or in a similar supervisory role.
- Background in music performance, education, or related arts fields.
- Experience working in an overnight camp setting.
- College student pursuing a degree in music, education, or a related field.
