Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Ceramics & Advanced Materials Intern to join our research team in Westminster, London. This is an exciting opportunity for a student or recent graduate to gain hands-on experience in a leading materials science company. You will contribute to cutting-edge research projects focused on the development and characterization of novel ceramic and advanced material systems, working alongside experienced scientists and engineers. This internship will provide valuable insights into industrial research methodologies, experimental design, and data analysis in a dynamic lab environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior researchers in the design and execution of experiments related to ceramic and advanced materials synthesis and processing.
  • Prepare and characterize various material samples using techniques such as XRD, SEM, TEM, DTA/TGA, and mechanical testing.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, meticulously document experimental procedures, observations, and results.
  • Analyze experimental data, interpret findings, and contribute to internal reports and presentations.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper functionality and safety protocols are followed.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members on ongoing projects and contribute to problem-solving discussions.

Required Skills

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science, Ceramics Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental materials science principles, particularly related to ceramics and advanced materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely and effectively in a laboratory setting.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous practical experience in a research laboratory, university project, or industrial setting.
  • Familiarity with characterization techniques such as X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), or Thermal Analysis (DTA/TGA).
  • Experience with materials processing techniques (e.g., powder synthesis, sintering, thin film deposition).
  • Basic proficiency in data processing software (e.g., OriginLab, MATLAB, Python for data analysis).
